Prohibited & Restricted Items

Home / Prohibited & Restricted Items

At SARA Procurement Services LTD and its subsidiaries, we help customers move goods across key trade routes, but not every item can be accepted for sourcing, shipping, payment support, warehousing, or delivery.

This page is a general customer guide. It does not replace customs law, airline rules, port rules, or destination-country regulations.

1. OUR POSITION

SARA reserves the right to refuse, delay, return, or request further review for any item that:

  • Check
Is prohibited by law in the origin, transit, or destination country
  • Check
Is unsafe to handle, transport, store, or clear
  • Check
Lacks the required documentation or declarations
  • Check
May expose our customers, partners, or operations to legal, customs, aviation, or safety risk

2. ITEMS WE DO NOT ACCEPT

SARA does not accept goods that are prohibited under applicable customs, aviation, or safety regulations. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Weapons, ammunition, and explosives
  • Counterfeit, pirated, or fraudulent goods
  • Narcotics and other illegal drugs
  • Protected wildlife products or endangered-species items
  • Cultural relics, antiquities, or restricted heritage items
  • Hazardous waste or unlawful scrap materials
  • Any item prohibited by Nigerian, Chinese, or destination-country law

Notice:

Nigeria Customs maintains official pages for absolute prohibition, import prohibition, and export prohibition, while China Customs publishes guidance on prohibited and restricted imports and exports.

3. ITEMS REQUIRING APPROVAL

Some goods are not automatically banned, but they may need prior review, special handling, or route approval before SARA can support them:

Batteries and other DG cargo
Electronics with embedded batteries
Liquids, chemicals, powders
Perishables
Plant or agricultural products
Cosmetics or pharmaceuticals
High-value cargo
Items requiring special permits

Acceptance depends on route, carrier, packaging, documentation, customs rules, and final review.

4. BATTERY AND DG CARGO

Battery shipments can be subject to Dangerous Goods (DG) rules (Lithium and Sodium-ion). These consignments may require:

  • Check
    Special packaging
  • Check
    Hazard labels
  • Check
    Documentation
  • Check
    Carrier approval
  • Check
    Route restrictions

IATA’s 2026 battery guidance states that lithium and sodium-ion batteries are regulated for air transport, and some battery consignments are limited or prohibited on passenger aircraft.

5. NIGERIA AND CHINA ROUTES

For cargo moving through Nigeria or China, acceptance depends on:

  • Check
    Customs prohibition rules
  • Check
    Licensing requirements
  • Check
    Export-control rules
  • Check
    Dangerous goods classification
  • Check
    Airline, port, or carrier restrictions

6. CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITY

Before shipping, customers should:

  • Check
Declare cargo accurately and share correct product details
  • Check
Disclose if goods contain batteries, chemicals, liquids, or powders
  • Check
Provide invoices, product specifications, MSDS, or permits
  • Check
Ask for confirmation if unsure whether an item is allowed

Failure to declare properly may lead to delays, refusal, seizure, fines, or cancellation of service.

7. SARA REVIEW RIGHTS

SARA may request additional documents, photos, or compliance information before confirming acceptance. SARA may still refuse support if an item is later found to be prohibited or unsafe.

8. NEED CONFIRMATION?

If you are unsure whether your item can be shipped, sourced, stored, or cleared, contact SARA before making payment or dispatching the cargo.
